Task 06 - Form and Digital Media
Using Photoshop, produce a work that responds to an allocated term emphasizing abstract visual qualities:
TENSION, AVOIDANCE, CONNECTION or FORCE.

My Initial Ideas / Approaches.
-
The term that I chose to respond to in this Photoshop task was CONNECTION.
-
I wanted to look at connection through an understanding of gravity and gravitational pulls between planets and their CONNECTION as a solar system in the universe.
-
I wanted to throw back to movies and tv shows that reference new universes and planets in their stories through visuals of landscapes with unique skies.
-
See for example in the images I sourced as references.

How I Developed This into My Final Work.
-
From the reference images in the mood board I knew I wanted to orientate my work as a landscape as it would offer more grandeur and a scene of depth within this universe.
-
I wanted to take reference from image 1 and its background with the darkness and the blue highlights, to show reference to space and the universe I am building connection and showing the force of gravity in. Even furthering their use of reflections in water as it mirrors and expands this universe further in its points of connection.
-
Like all reference images the viewer in first person, placed within a unique landscape that shows not only the planets vastness but its microcosm within the vastness of this solar system in space.
-
Finally I wanted to have a couple planets as this would further my exploration into the term of force through the effects of gravitational pull between planets and their connections.
What Went Well?
-
I typically work with procreate on my iPad when I work digitally in my practice, so having to reengage with Photoshop for the first time in years I felt quite comfortable as I have years of experience from high school art classes and my architecture background.
-
I found my exploration of CONNECTION strong as the expanse and depth of the planetary background is subtly foregrounded through the reflection in the mirroring surface of the water, emphasising the unique relationship between the planets.

What Could Be Improved?
-
One benefit of Photoshop is its ability to have layers that can be used to indicate process over time. Due to the lack in my ability to save the Photoshop file in the last minutes of class I could have shown my process work on how I came to my final product. (THIS WOULD HAVE REALLY BENEFITTED THIS BLOG 100% MORE)

Where Could I Go From Here?
-
I think from exploring Photoshop again I realised it can be a medium in which if practice more I could use in my practice in the future, it does offer a lot in developing unique and abstract images that sometimes can't always be made by hand.
-
If I was to take this work further I would plan on figuring out how I could display the piece.
-
I would consider between options of printing the work out or using other visual media like screens or projection works. Personally I think my choice would be projection as I think the work would be grand and unworldly like the image if projected upon a very large blank wall in a dark room.
