Task 04 - Material Opposition
In pairs, produce a work that combines 2 different materials: HARD or SOFT. Work collaboratively to create a work using only the pair of materials – works can be 2D or 3D.

My Initial Ideas / Approaches.
-
Started this task by splitting up into two groups of which one group would supply a soft material and the others would supply a hard material.
-
I was allocated SOFT as my material - which I decided upon Glad Wrap as my material of choice.
-
Then we were split up into groups of two with each partner supplying the opposite material to mine, which was a HARD material.
-
The materials we ended up with was Glad Wrap and Plastic Bones from an anatomy skeleton.
-
We knew we didn't want to be literal with the skeleton as it would be to constraining in our outcome.
How I Developed This into My Final Work.
-
We started by exploring length and the extremity of the use of the Glad Wrap.
-
Using existing structure/infrastructure/nature as tying points in order to suspend the artwork.
-
There were suggestions or comments on using the environment may be introducing another material and wouldn't be following the rule, so we moved away from hanging things.
-
We then played around with the idea of using the glad wrap and wrapping it around the bones in order to create forms and shapes.
-
This would allow us to make multiple miniatures with the bones acting as individual skeletons for each of the little figures.
-
We also wanted to use the glad wrap as it was a more flexible and available material to make some kind of feature or landscape for the figures to be in relation with.

What Went Well?
-
The Way we approached the work was to be very experimental and let the materials dictate the direction and outcome of the work.
-
The final work had some strong connections to the original use of the hard material being a skeleton, except we were able to expand upon it in a unique way.
-
The work has strong connections to totems or offerings to some kind of higher power, then the work became a reference to that in the way the figures become a community/cult that worship an alter inn the middle.
-
I found that we worked well as a group and I found myself having to take some control in making key decisions to proceed in certain areas of the collaboration.

What Could Be Improved?
-
Communication within the group could be improved next time, with input being even between both parties.
-
Our HARD material was quite confined in its use as it wasn't able to be changed or broken in anyway and they left us having to work in a particular way. More freedom in use of materials would be helpful next time.

Where Could I Go From Here?
-
Maybe more Boones could be used if we were to attempt this task again, different body parts apart from the spine could introduce new shapes, sizes of figures and forms in the overall composition.
-
I liked the outcome and connection the material had to our final result so maintaining that for another work would help too.
