Task 02 - Material Transposition
Produce two works that explore transposition in 2D and 3D modes using a sound work as a point of departure. By devising an abstract pair of artworks: 1) drawing/collage and 2) clay.

3D Response
My Initial Ideas / Approaches.
-
Slow and Fluid
-
Rhythmic and repetitive of certain parts
-
Expressive and emotional
-
Many different elements and levels to the music
-
Spacey and worldly
-
Alien and foreign qualities
-
Improvised quality
How I Developed This into My Final Work.
-
I wanted to incorporate multiple moments and modular parts to the final form.
-
I also wanted to capture the different levels and expressive qualities of the sounds to form with different textures.
-
There needed to exist difference in the heights, size and weights of the forms to capture different sound elements.

What Went Well?
-
I found even though the final work was of many different balanced and free standing forms the work was able to maintain its final form well.
-
I found the improvised approach to the work, made for less pressure in a perfect final work. There was more of a playful and freedom in the sculpting of different forms.
-
I was able to play with many different forms and sizes that add a variety to the work.

What Could Be Improved?
-
I agree that the freedom in how I approach a final result can be great for releasing pressure on myself and my perfectionism. Although a bit of constraint and editing may be beneficial in future attempts.
-
A more cohesive language in the forms and textures could be explored
-
I believe there is a bit too much going on in one piece and the chaos can lead a viewer in too many directions, maybe look at editing my work and ideas a little.

Where Could I Go From Here?
-
Approach future responses with a more reserved and editorial approach and method in order to have a clearer final work.
-
Simplify forms and textures

2D Response
My Initial Ideas / Approaches.
-
Stretched out notes and tones that have a circular and repetitive nature, and motion like waves washing back and forth.
-
The notes and tones are also long and continuous as if they go on forever.
-
Sterile and muted sounds
-
Within the music are random moments of emphatic energy in tamborine shacking.
-
Improvised nature to the overall song.
-
I want to approach the work with a stream of consciousness awareness and response to the song in real time

How I Developed This into My Final Work.
-
Since the song acted as one long note almost and didn't seem to end I wanted there to be an underlining continuous imprint with the 2D work. So I decided to apply just on single line moved across the paper surface to represent that.
-
There was motion in the work and this I wanted to capture by creating circular gesture upon the canvas.
-
Since the sounds were very bland in emotion I didn't want to over do the colour in the work, only applying colour for emphasis.
-
Randomly placed gestures of red to represent the tambourine shakes.

What Went Well?
-
I was able to respond to this song/sound quite quickly and since I was responding to the song in real-time I didn't have to listen to the song more than 2-3 times.
-
My response to the work could be described as a stream of consciousness response.
-
Once I had completed the work I made sure not to comeback and add or subtract as that would taint the overall intention of my approach.

What Could Be Improved?
-
I think with my eagerness and quick response to the work didn't give me comfort in the final result of the work, but I had to accept that as it was my intended approach.
-
Maybe I could do some more planning prior to attempting the work or give myself a few more attempts or practice runs to capture a idea of what I may like or change in my final attempt.

Where Could I Go From Here?
-
Maybe look into existing responses to similar works that use similar methods by other artists as research for how I would approach mine in future attempts.
