Task 01 - Three Hour Artwork
Produce a work over 3 uninterrupted hours, there are no other constraints for this task - works can be any medium, scale, subject, theme or concept. They can be abstract, representational or experiential.

Initial Ideas / Approaches
-
Experienced initial nerves facing a three-hour artistic task.
-
Opted to center the creation around a self-portrait using charcoal.
-
Intended to convey personal experiences with depression through expressive strokes.
-
Found comfort in sticking to familiar techniques for the sake of ease.
How I Developed This into My Final Work
-
Curated a mood board of reference images to guide the process.
-
Used the imagery to shape the direction of the portrait.
-
Remained mindful of the limited time available for completion.

Portrait photos taken of myself to use as the base figure for my artwork.

What Could Be Improved
-
During the making process I had reached around the 2-hour mark and felt that I had achieved a result I was content with the work being finished. At which point I took a 10-minute break, after returning I had an urge to keep working on the work. I believe this urge may have influenced me to maybe over work or add too much to the final result.
-
I struggle in some regards when it comes to taking a step back and letting the work be.
-
I think not having a defined image to finish on really had me on edge.

Where could I Go From Here
-
I think in future it is important for me to work out what my final result will be prior to approaching a work otherwise i can easily be led off track.
-
I think testing my limits in terms of what i can produce in short time slots will benefit my practice in the future.
-
Maybe even explore and be open to new techniques in order to open up my capabilities in my art making.
What Went Well
-
I am quite pleased with the work I produced over such a short time. As I typically don't set myself time limits or constraints around my work.
-
I believe that when it came to creating the work over the three-hour period, I had spent enough time prior to starting the artwork setting up and making sure I was organized.
-
I have a strong knowledge of portraits, especially when it comes to drawing so I felt comfortable with both my material choice and intended outcome. I didn't think pushing myself out of my comfort zone was smart especially for my first work.
